Airstream

Chrome Nomad in Palm Springs My home on the road is a 2006 Airstream International CCD 28.

When I decided to embark on this mission, I had a few options, but the Airstream was really the only thing that I seriously considered.  I’ve always liked the look of them, and little did I know that they’re a dream to tow.  They’re not cheap (a 2009 model costs almost $75,000!), but I’m completely happy with the choice.

My other alternatives consisted of a 5th Wheel Toy Hauler (for the motorcycle) or a fullsize motorhome, but all 5th wheels are hideously ugly (and garages eat into living space), and the motorhome would’ve been way too expensive.  Though I must say, a 48′ toy hauler motorhome towing an M5 behind it would actually be pretty amazing.  Maybe in a few years.

The interior of the Airstream is kickass — people are always surprised when they see how modern it is.  (The International line was done by some designer from san francisco, to make it “non trailer-like”)  All of the space is efficiently designed, though it would’ve been sweet to have a slide-out dinette.  Though that’s only available in the 30′ and larger models, which all have the “Classic” interiors.  Classic meaning, ugly and rv-like.

Here are a number of Airstream articles I’ve written:
